ASUS Zenbook Pro Co-creative Experimental Project NFT 21 Days

For the very first time, Zenbook Pro launched a co-creative experimental project, inviting the Creative Director of Ultra Combos Jay Tseng, film director Kidding Hsu, and music producer A-len Yue to co-create a series of experimental products [21 Days] using the new creative tool Zenbook Pro 16X OLED and using NFT as the form of digital curation.

This organic co-creative experimental project is based on the theme of recording everyday life for 21 days, connecting the real life and creative experience of the three creators, and archiving the feelings of memory or time through each of their respective professions. During the creation, the three of them are a flowing and organic process. The movement in life, the flow of thoughts, and the interaction within the relationships, these moments of intervention in everyday life have become sources of inspiration; therefore, this series of products used “interpolate” as its creative starting point, re-exploring the daily scenery through visual, audio, and digital perspectives.

Digital Archiving of Daily Life

From the 21 segments of daily records provided by Kidding Hsu, and the 21 prepared piano improvisations created by A-len Yue, along with the vessel “Memory Lens” that Ultra Combos designed, which uses coding technology to provide digital tools, scattering the life ideas and making them appear in another form. In this vessel, every image and sound becomes a parameter, allowing the feelings between different senses to oscillate against each other, co-creating 21 unique digital memory experiments.

The co-created products use glass as their main visual image, where each specific and minute fragment of life is archived digitally as files and in the memory. Although the fragments may be blurred or slightly distorted, the wrapped feelings are still transparent in texture. For the three-week co-creative project, the dimensions are progressively stacked to translate images and sounds each week. The first week is translated into 2D images, the following week is into deep space, and the last week is into cubes.

Co-creation for 3 Weeks (21 Days)
Week 1

The fragments of life can be infinitely extended. Through the lens, the images are stretched to form a continuous landscape, while the sounds become an organic parameters that shake up daily life.

Week 2

In deep space, the images are transformed through the lens and become image parts. They appear directly with the sounds. The semi-transparent image fragments and music notes overlap, intersect, and disappear, like memories evoked by touching piano keys.

Week 3

A certain moment in daily life coheres into a cube through memory. As the cube is rotated, that moment can be seen again from a different perspective. The sound synchronizes with the angle of rotation, creating a 3D auditory effect, which triggers the synesthesia of memories.

Formation of Memory Lens

Slit scanning technology was used in the first two weeks to convert the original footage. This technique remixes time and space, transforming the appearance of that dynamic instant. It is just like our memory function, recording the images from a short period of time and presenting them in an unreal or somewhat illusory way, just like how there may be a difference between the actual experience and memory. This conversion method echoes the theme “Interpolate.”

In addition, we used several sound techniques to enhance this “unreal, illusory” feeling. For the first week, we used the features of real-time frequency spectrum to correspond to the visual sense of rhythm. For the second week, we used the sound elements that are more grainy and these are triggered when the image parts pass through the edge of the container. For the third week, we used Web Audio to convert the sounds into spatial audio, allowing the sound to change distance in accordance with the rotation of the cube.

Uniqueness and Eternity of NFT

NFT, which is formed based on blockchain technology, has two important characteristics: its uniqueness that cannot be copied and its eternity that cannot be destroyed. This creative project, which includes 21 daily memories, will eventually be released as NFT. This also symbolizes that these moments not only exist in the lives of the creators, but also that the memories are permanently archived in digital form.
